Mellowbeing

I’ve been meaning to write about how the BIG Art Show went and now I will take the time to do so and procrastinate a little further with my final projects and assignments.. ahem.. My little space all set up:

The day went really well. I shared a space with Jessica from Haasome Goods and my good friend Ben stuck around from the time we set up til the time we left the show (approximately 10 hrs.. 4pm til 1am). You can see us below with our goofiest expressions in this picture that Fort Cloudy took of our little trio:

Several friends came by to show their support. One of my friends even brought her mom – they ended up buying phone cozies for themselves and some flowery buttons to put on their blazer’s lapels. I hadn’t thought of that before so I think I will start wearing my infamous pink flower pin on my brown corduroy jacket… it’ll look cute and even do some self-promoting. :) Here’s myself and Yuliya posing for the camera, looking hawt:

Anywho, I did manage to sell several pins.. to people I don’t know.. hah.. but the wristwarmers and cozies didn’t get very much play. There were live bands playing the entire night and plenty of cheap booze to go around so I did have peppy, drunken potential customers feeling up the knit/crochet goods but didn’t actually get anything. Maybe I shoul’dve been offering free alcohol with purchase.. haha..

Welp, that is all. Hopefully Jessica and I will be doing Artists & Fleas in Williamsburg within a month or so.. the weather is getting more and more beautiful.. the creative juices are flowing.. and things are looking up.

So what happens when you get incredibly chunky, beautiful violet yarn for Christmas and your friend lends you her #17 knitting needles? A scarflette, that’s what. [Scarflette is a mini scarf that is usually held together with buttons].

As you can see below, I’m nearly done with this little experiment of mine – it’s the first of its kind that I’ve made. It’s a bit warm now since it’s late April already but it’s blazer weather so it should come in handy.

Thanks to Chris, I now have in my possession 2 of the possibly coolest identity cards I’ve had to date. Behold, the official Firefox Love card and my semi-official status now of a Unix Programmer (although, I’m getting better at using grep but shouldn’t really call myself such a thing til I finally get the hang of regular expressions and knowing more Perl). For the non-techy folks, I’m just not worthy of the Unix programmer title just yet hah. :)

It’s a short update today. Will be posting about the Big Art Show, a scarflette I’m currently working on and possibly new wristwarmer designs. Back to the grind now.

Today is the day of the Big Art Show! I spent a few hours last night watching Sex and the City, Scrubs and that 70s Show while I finished sewing in loose ends and sewing on buttons. At the end of the evening, I decided that I need to have more than 3 pairs of wristwarmers to show.. (they’re the short black, short red and long gray ones from my shop). I came up with a new design and I plan on creating the 2nd of a pair I never did finish (short black ones).

So, without further ado, here are the results of the crochet madness of the last few weeks.

Most of them are acrylic and some are cotton (the bright colored green, orange and pink). I didn’t realize how many types of buttons I had collected til now… anyway, I didn’t use wools since these will be cozying electronics.

The new pair (the green and brown ones) have cotton lime green borders with a chocolately acrylic brown in the center. Almost reminds me of mint with chocolate.

Here are the “boy” and “girl” warmers I made for Chris, my myspace/etsy friend. They’re all black with blue & pink lettering and edges in large and medium, respectively. These came out pretty well, I think. My first attempt at making fitted lettered warmers. Anywho, that is all for now. I’ve been working on a lot of school related stuff lately and I’m deciding whether or not I should post pictures from class projects or keep this more recreational. Any suggestions?

I caught this on tv last night which was surprising considering it’s an independent film that isn’t even very well known in the cult movie culture, or least I haven’t heard anyone talk about it. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend you watching it.

The story is primarily about a girl, who up til her senior year of college, believed everything in the world should be beautiful and perfect. She had the most “perfect” life – most appreciated sorority sister, jock boyfriend and socialite parents. It’s all very surreal and it has a strange sense of 50s superficiality. There’s no time frame for the movie either since the clothing and hair are very much retro but the references are from the last few years so it’s a nice mix of timelines. So, all in all, her life changes when she meets the boy she’s paired up with to train for a challenged sports event. I haven’t figured out what disease he had but that’s not the point. It’s far from cheesy, I hate anything that’s even slightly predictable or corny and yes, this movie has a bit of those elements but it’s so sincere that I couldn’t help but overlook those things.

And yes, it’s a love story. Aren’t they all? Just watch it. :)
